As it released data saying that violent incidents and arrests were becoming less common in city schools, the de Blasio administration said it would begin adopting recommendations to make the school climate better by relying upon fewer arrests, suspensions and summonses.
The set of 10 proposals was released July 23 by the Mayor’s Leadership Team on School Climate and Discipline, which consists of Department of Education employees, parents and education advocates. The Mayor, DOE and NYPD plan to assemble a timeline before the school year begins and the team will reconvene to track progress and make other recommendations, if necessary.
