De Blasio Cherry-Picked Stats on Lead Exposure

When Mayor de Blasio told the public that only four kids living in Housing Authority apartments had tested positive for lead poisoning last November, he neglected to mention an important piece of information he’d learned the day before: that 202 children had elevated lead levels between 2010 and 2015.

On Nov. 20, Mr. de Blasio announced that from 2014the beginning of his first termthrough 2016, four children had blood-lead levels that required NYCHA to abate their apartments, days after the Department of Investigation slammed the agency for falsely reporting to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that it had conducted thousands of lead-paint inspections dating back to the Bloomberg administration in 2012.
