District Council 37 Aug. 7 attacked the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s plans to close two of its three immunization clinics, saying the remaining center would be flooded with clients and placed under tremendous stress during the back-to-school vaccination rush.
“The Department of Health is abandoning one of their core responsibilities, and that is extremely irresponsible on their part,” said Local 436 President Judith Arroyo at a press conference outside City Hall. “And it is not a cost measure. One of the most expensive items in an immunization clinic is the vaccine. But the vaccines they use for the children don’t cost anything. The Federal Government provides that for them.”
