Cuomo: Report Makes Case for Takeover Of ‘Failing’ City Schools

To strengthen his case for taking over poor-performing schools, Governor Cuomo released a 208-page report Feb. 26 stating that more than 50,000 city students were enrolled in 91 “failing” schools.

“The State of New York’s Failing Schools” report compiled by the Governor’s Policy, Education and Budget departments appeared to respond to advocates’ calls for more state aid. For the three years preceding the 2014-2015 school year, education aid to the city increased by 13.4 percent, though 91 schools failed to improve, according to the report.
