After complaints by lawyers and prisoners-rights advocates about a pilot program restricting the packages that could be sent to state prisoners, Governor Cuomo canceled it Jan. 12.
“I am directing the Dept. of Corrections to rescind its flawed pilot program that restricted shipment of books & care packages to inmates,” he tweeted. “Concerns from families need to be addressed, while we re-double efforts to fight prison contraband.”
