Boosters of legislation in Albany to extend labor-law protections to the state’s farmworkers hailed a recent State appellate-court decision that granted the state’s farmworkers the right to unionize.
The May 23 ruling struck down as unconstitutional a state prohibition on farmworkers collectively bargaining. The ruling comes as sponsors and supporters of the New York State Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act hoped to win its passage by the end of the legislative session in Albany June 19.
