Council OKs Pot-Test Ban Before City Hires

The City Council passed a bill April 9 that bans pre-employment drug testing for marijuana in both the private and public sectors, which the Public Advocate called the end of an “artificial barrier” to jobs.

The law prohibits employers, including city agencies, from testing prospective hires for tetrahydrocannabinols—the active ingredient in marijuana—as part of the hiring process.
