Addressing the furor over understaffing and other problems in the NYPD’s sex-crimes units, City Council Members introduced four bills aimed at fixing the problem. But during a contentious hearing April 9, NYPD officials rejected all of them, saying they would infringe on Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill’s ability to manage the department.
“We respectfully oppose the legislation being proposed today,” said NYPD Legislative Affairs Director Oleg Chernyavsky.
