Five City Council Members have thrown their support behind a bill that would eliminate the Public Advocate’s position, which will become vacant once incumbent Letitia James leaves to become State Attorney General on Jan. 1.
Though the Public Advocate serves as a watchdog, while also raising issues not championed by the Mayor, Council Member Kalman Yeger, the bill’s main sponsor, said that he has “yet to hear a good argument for why this job should exist.”
