Readers of this column over the last seven months have likely noticed that I have been unsparing in my critical analysis of what the labor movement and the Democratic Party have done or are not doing. But in reading those columns, it should also have been evident that the critique was rooted in my supportive contention that labor and the Democratic Party are the only institutions large enough to organize the resistance necessary to eventually lead our nation out of the nightmare that we continue to experience every day in our politics.
So while herewith I will recognize a very positive development on the local labor front, I must also lament a very negative development emanating from some Senate Democrats in Washington.
