In a spending plan reflecting what it called “responsible prosperity,” the City Council asked the de Blasio administration to restructure its proposed $77.7-billion budget for the fiscal year beginning in July to add more money for Housing Authority repairs, extend library services and hire more parks workers.
One of the biggest elements in its April 14 response is $200 million in capital funding for the HA to repair its aging buildings and $25 million to match a Council initiative to close work orders. Under its proposal, the authority would also set aside 2,500 apartments—about half of the units that become vacant each year—for the homeless.
