Cops Must Be Open On Stop Data, Lawyers Say

Plaintiffs in the stop-and-frisk litigation who won an order that the NYPD overhaul its procedures on the controversial tactic have warned against a confidentiality rule proposed by the Federal Monitor coordinating the overhaul, the New York Law Journal reported last week.

The monitor, Peter Zimroth, submitted a draft order in July that would allow confidential information to be disclosed to the public in his regular reports. But the order would prohibit the release of confidential information he did not report to interested parties such as police-reform advocates, the newspaper said Sept. 4.
