More than a hundred people, mostly retired firefighters and police officers, pleaded guilty to the fraud scheme. One said he was innocent—and within three days, he was convicted by a Manhattan jury.
Kevin Hurley, 56, was found guilty of grand larceny on May 18 by a State Supreme Court jury. When he retired as a Police Officer in 2004, he told the Social Security Administration that post-traumatic stress disorder had left him depressed and anxious. The symptoms were so bad he couldn’t manage money, go shopping, or drive, he claimed, according to the New York Times.
