Sheldon Silver was arrested last month after U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara filed a criminal complaint charging him with misusing his post as Speaker of the State Assembly to gain $4 million in bribes.
After his arrest Jan. 22, Mr. Bharara had a month to win a grand-jury indictment of Mr. Silver. The announcement that he had done so came Feb. 19.
