The city April 15 kicked off lead-paint inspections at 135,000 apartments at the Housing Authority using advanced X-ray equipment, Mayor de Blasio announced.
The $88-million project started at Harlem River Houses that day. Inspections will begin May 1 at seven other developments with the highest populations of children under the age of 6, who can contract serious health problems including developmental delays if they are exposed to lead for long periods of time. Bronx River Houses, Saint Nicholas Houses and Red Hook Houses West were among those selected.
