Last year was officially the safest on New York City streets since the city was transitioning from the horse and buggy to the automobile, Mayor de Blasio announced last week in a shout-out to the Vision Zero traffic plan.
“Vision Zero is working,” Mr. de Blasio said at an announcement Jan. 19 on Queens Blvd., where $100 million is being spent to add bike lanes and space for pedestrians as well as reduce traffic speeds. He was accompanied by Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg and NYPD Chief of Transportation Thomas Chan.
