More than three hours after departing the State Office Building in Harlem March 4, a bus carrying two dozen United Federation of Teachers members and allies queued in a long line of chartered coaches next to a park with a clear view of the Capitol complex in Albany.
Approximately 1,100 Teachers, members of the Chancellor’s Parent Advisory Council and union-affiliated volunteers had boarded 32 early-morning buses for the UFT’s annual lobbying day. During the mid-day event, they ate lunch, heard from union leaders and met with State Assembly Members and Senators to promote the UFT’s legislative agenda.
