Mayor de Blasio announced last week that more than 34,000 Board of Elections poll workers would receive a boost in their daily pay, a move that the union representing BOE staff celebrated but cautioned wouldn’t be enough for the workers to reach minimum wage.

The per-diem employees have earned $200 a day for 17 years, according to Communications Workers of America Local 1183, which represents about 600 full-time staff members.
