Before retiring last week, NYPD Commissioner William Bratton, out of left field, roiled troubled waters with a decision that will intensify police-community tensions in New York City.
Upending a 40-year practice, Bratton announced that if Police Officer Daniel Pantaleo is not departmentally charged with excessive force for causing or contributing to Eric Garner’s 2014 alleged “chokehold” death, graphically videotaped and seen worldwide, these findings will not be made public.
