Boost in Crossing-Guard Pay Rate Is Just the Beginning, Says ‘372’ Head

As District Council 37 touted a pay hike for thousands of low-wage workers last week, its executive director said the union would keep fighting to increase minimum wages to $15 per hour for all of its members.

An agreement with the de Blasio administration boosted wages last week for up to 4,500 employees in three titles to $11.50 per hour, according to the union. Of more than 2,100 School Crossing Guards, roughly 350 of them saw their salaries increase by more than 10 percent on April 1. New hires will start at that rate.
