Shop steward Donna Ellaby prevailed last week in a runoff election for president of Communication Workers of America Local 1183 against C. Richard Wagner, who held the job for more than three decades and attempted a comeback a decade after being voted out of office. She received 58 percent of the 457 votes cast.
“We have a remarkable number of rank-and-file members who are excited that I won; who are very interested in becoming active; who hope for a transparent, open process and a level of union democracy that they don’t feel they’ve had,” she said.
