One highly regarded labor arbitrator has left his post as a neutral member of the Board of Collective Bargaining and has been replaced by someone with an equally strong reputation.
George Nicolau, who years ago established himself as the longest-tenured member in the history of the city’s seven-member mediation board, retired last month after serving for 28 years. He was succeeded by Alan R. Viani, a former chief negotiator for District Council 37 and president of its Local 371 who 30 years ago made the transition to being an impartial as Deputy Director for Disputes at the Office of Collective Bargaining, the BCB’s parent agency.
