BCB Rules EMS Chiefs Guilty of Union Bias Against Lieutenant

In a ruling that faulted top Emergency Medical Service Chiefs for testimony that was “implausible” and “disingenuous,” the Board of Collective Bargaining has found that the FDNY retaliated against an employee for union activity.

The six-member panel was responding to a grievance on behalf of EMS Lieut. Michael Sheridan, a department veteran of more than 30 years, who had since retired. He was transferred in 2012 from his longtime post working the overnight shift in Rockaway, Queens and was not reinstated for more than a year; he was also removed from the FDNY’s ceremonial unit.
