The American Federation of Teachers last week endorsed Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee for U.S. President, making it the first national union to back a candidate in the party’s primary. One local Teacher activist, however, called the move premature and dictated from the “top down,” labeling it an attempt to end the process before one Democratic rival builds too much momentum.
The AFT announced the endorsement July 11 as the 1.6-million member union prepared its biennial, three-day TEACH conference in Washington D.C. which 2,000 educators attended.
