Christopher Slutman, the city Firefighter and Marine reservist killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan earlier this month, was remembered at his April 26 funeral by his friends and colleagues as a gifted leader whose life revolved around his young family and service to his community and country.
Staff Sgt. Slutman, 43 and a 15-year FDNY veteran, most recently with Ladder Company 27 in the South Bronx, was killed April 8 along with Cpl. Robert A. Hendricks, 25, of Locust Valley, Nassau County, and Sgt. Benjamin S. Hines, 31, of York, Pennsylvania. All three were members of the 25th Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve.
