More than half of the NYPD officers so far charged with misconduct during the Black Lives Matter protests last year face serious consequences if convicted, the Civilian Complaint Review Board said in releasing the results of investigations it has so far completed.
Of the 65 officers implicated—including some high-ranking supervisors—37 face penalties that could include firing for excessive use of force, abuse of authority, lying to investigators and offensive language. Should they be found guilty following an administrative trial at NYPD headquarters, penalties range from lost vacation days to suspension to termination.
