Staffers working on Sen. Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign have unionized, with the candidate’s support, CNN reported. The 44 eligible employees together become the first major-party campaign staffers to formally organize.
The campaign staffers will be represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400. According to the Landover, Maryland-based local, anyone below the rank of deputy director can join the bargaining unit. A majority of 44 eligible employees signed union cards.
"We cannot just support unions with words, we must back it up with actions," CNN quoted Sanders as saying.
