Public-sector unions’ efforts to persuade their members to not opt out following the Supreme Court's Janus decision have so far proved fruitful, Salon reported. Membership declines have so far been minimal, and in some cases, recruitment has even climbed.
According to the online publication, just 56 of United Teachers Los Angeles’ 34,000 members have rescinded their memberships since the court's June decision. And in New York City, membership in the United Federation of Teachers is at 99.3. Unions in general are profiting from an upturn in approval, with polling showing support for labor unions at a 15-year high, Salon reported.
