Lou Cosentino, who spent 27 years as president of the old Transit Sergeants Benevolent Association while also heading the Major Case Squad of the Transit Police Department for part of that period, died Sept. 15 at age 79.
A measure of the high regard for him was that he was elected to run the union in 1968 at age 29 while a rookie Sergeant, although one who had made his mark as a vice president of the Transit Police Benevolent Association for a bit more than a year before he was promoted.
