It’s probably not true that everything that happens in the local political world these days is attributable to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but we’d have to think her knocking off Congressman Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary June 26 produced a there-but-for-the-grace-of-God-go-I moment for Republican State Sen. Marty Golden.

The ex-cop had been content at the end of the legislative session last month to let a city speed-camera program expire, proposing that it be replaced with more stop signs and traffic lights at school intersections. Much of the blame for allowing the program to end had fallen on Simcha Felder, a Democrat who votes with Senate Republicans in return for patronage for his Brooklyn district.
