The United Federation of Teachers and Mayor de Blasio announced a deal June 20 granting its 120,000 members six weeks of paid parental leave at full salary, culminating an aggressive push for a benefit that union President Michael Mulgrew said would be a prominent part of the Mayor’s legacy.
“Today is an extremely significant day in the history of our union,” he said during a press conference in the City Hall Blue Room. “It’s been a long fight but today I get to say this is the last school year that a UFT member will have to face those difficult choices as in the past. We now have paid parental leave for all members of the UFT.”
