Ailing Court Officer Gets 9/11-Related Sick Time

A Court Officer who was diagnosed with World Trade Center-related breast cancer but denied unlimited sick time she was entitled to under state law will be credited for the 855 hours in sick time she used to battle her illness, according to Dennis Quirk, president of the New York State Court Officers Association.

On Sept. 17 Lieut. Angela Shirlaw, a court officer who works in lower Manhattan, testified before the State Senate Civil Service and Pensions Committee, which was investigating the failure of state and local agencies to comply with the WTC unlimited-sick-time bill signed into law by Governor Cuomo on Sept. 11, 2017.
